My first recollection of handling mud was at the age of four. I loved to make mud pies and cookies. I remember the soft cool feel of the mud in my hands. Today the feeling is still the same but I have moved on from pies and cookies.

Although the curiosity and love of pottery certainly was planted at an early age, I was schooled in the commercial art field. After meeting my husband, Steve, and starting a family, making pottery was put on hold for several years. Today my time is divided between exploring my personal approach to creative pottery, teaching adult and kids’ pottery classes at Monrovia Mudworks in Mooresville, Indiana, and fulfilling commissioned pieces for individuals and businesses.

Pottery is something you never master. It’s something to appreciate time and time again. The same goes with every potter I meet. I appreciate and am amazed at their ability to create something from the earth. I’ve met potters from all over the country, as well as other countries, and appreciate how they use clays, glazes, and applications that are available to them from their surroundings. They, too, have found the love of pottery that is embedded in their souls. On several recent trips to Japan, I had the opportunity to visit potters, pottery villages, studios, and galleries where I got a different perspective on the art of making pottery.

My pottery has found homes from Oregon to Maine, Wisconsin to Texas, and many places in between, as well as abroad. My work is available for purchase at The Sterling Butterfly in Martinsville, Indiana. And, as always, you are invited to contact me directly at 765.315.9292.
